THE BANDS
joey vainDuring the late 1970's several young Colorado new wave/punk rock bands sprung up through out the Front Range. The bands represented a variety of styles but all presented themselves as part of the new rock movement. Many of the groups went on well into the 80's under various incarnations and in some cases had successful recording careers. Generally though, the life of these bands was short. Some fizzled out due to lack of paying work (gigs). Others left the state for greener pastures elsewhere (usually the east or west coast). And as the eighties wore on and music trends changed, many of the musicians adapted to these changes and changed the style of music that they played.

It was all a musical response to punk and new wave movements in other parts of the world, but it became a style that was uniquely Coloradan. Imagine sipping a 3.2 beer in a dive on Capitol Hill in Denver, listening to a band blasting away at a three chord punk song.

Take a journey through the late 70's and early 80's and read about each group's story...
